CASEY GETS KEY TO THE CITY

Almost twenty years to the day after the Oaks clinched the 1948 Pacific Coast League pennant, at an Oldtimers' game between the '48 Oaks and the '48 Seals at the Oakland Coliseum on August 18, 1968, Casey Stengel was awarded the key to the City of Oakland. Here, in a newly rediscovered tape recording of that event, hear Mayor John Redding make the presentation, and hear Casey in his inimitable fashion accept the award. Click key below only once -- you may have to wait a few seconds for the sound file to load.
