Solons Pitcher - 1955
Shown in the above photo chatting with California Governor Goodwin J. Knight before the 1955 season opener at Edmonds Field, Edward James Cereghino, of Daly City, led his Jefferson High School baseball team to the league championship and was the star of the 1951 East-West All-Star Game in San Francisco.

He was immediately recruited by the Yankees with a $74,000 bonus contract. He never pitched in the major leagues, but was optioned to the San Francisco Seals for the 1951 season at the age of 17. He then played for the Kansas City Blues, in the American Association, until he was acquired by the Solons in 1955. He threw in 25 games for Sacramento, starting 6, with an ERA of 5.81 for the season.
