Mel Reeves


Long ball hitter and outfielder MEL REEVES, 25, hails from San Francisco. Mel, an Emeryville newcomer, pulled down drives for Scranton of the Eastern League in '46, batting .288. Started the '47 season in the PCL with the Oaks, then in mid-season joined Johnny Babich's Stockton Ports in the California League, where he hit .372 with 16 HR and 67 RBI in only 74 games. He's neat on defense, usually covers center field. Swings from the left side of the plate, and goes for the distance.
