The Oakland Oaks of 1946
In 1946, the Pacific Coast League launched a post-war campaign to attract the public attention to baseball on the west coast. It was the year the Oaks began their push to capture the PCL pennant. In this rare footage from a long-lost film promoting the league's teams, we see Casey Stengel in his spring training debut with the Oakland Oaks, and some priceless color film of Oaks' pitcher Charlie Gassaway, catchers Billy Raimondi and Ed Kearse, and fielders Les Scarsella and Hershel Martin in action, as they prepare for the 1946 season. |
